Hydrodynamic coupling using oil to transmit torque between the prime mover and the driven load, cushioning start-up and preventing mechanical shock from reaching gearboxes and conveyors. The motor starts against a nearly unloaded coupling for a soft, low-current start, and the coupling limits the torque that can reach the driven equipment if it jams — the fluid simply slips rather than transmitting a damaging shock load. Constant-fill and delay-chamber (time-delay fill) versions are both available, and fusible plugs vent the oil automatically if the coupling overheats. Available across sizes 8 to 41, covering 0.29 kW to 1,000 kW depending on motor speed.

Common across mining, construction, power generation and bulk-material handling — conveyors, crushers, mills, mixers, fans and screening plants all use fluid couplings to smooth out starts and absorb shock loading.
